Trump dismisses idea of allowing Bahamians into U.S. after Hurricane Dorian

Beto O’Rourke Makes Gun Control a Focus of his Campaign Reboot | Politics | US News
Thank God someone finally willing to say we have too many guns in the U.S. Now he and we need to decide what to do to build upon that base. How many more deaths before we do? It is a giant albatross around all our necks.

'Support Bawnboy' campaign to revitalize small Cavan village
This is a wonderful place!!! My grandfather was born here and I surely hope that they can keep the school's 3 teachers. I would love to live there for some of the year, but I am not what the town needs. They need some young families right now and then let's see what the rest of us can do.

Opinion | The Pain of Losing a Local Record Store - The New York Times
Sure makes sense to me.
But experience has taught me that this cold logic is far from airtight. Our emotional connection to stores, restaurants and other commercial spots whose loss we mourn has nothing to do with economics. These businesses give us the most pleasure because of their irrational exuberance, their daily chutzpah, which is what’s so humanizing about them.

Opinion | We Have Ruined Childhood - The New York Times
I surely agree.
Tali Raviv, the associate director of the Center for Childhood Resilience, says many children today are suffering a social-skills deficit. She told me kids today “have fewer opportunities to practice social-emotional skills, whether it’s because they live in a violent community where they can’t go outside, or whether it’s because there’s overprotection of kids and they don’t get the independence to walk down to the corner store.”
--
Something has to change, says Denise Pope, a co-founder of Challenge Success, an organization based in Palo Alto, Calif., that helps schools make research-backed changes to improve children’s mental health. Kids need recess. They need longer lunches. They need free play, family time, meal time. They need less homework, fewer tests, a greater emphasis on social-emotional learning.

When Cities Try to Limit Guns, State Laws Bar the Way - The New York Times
There is no reason why local governments cannot adopt policies to promote positive actiions. As long as they stop short of imposing laws, requirements, regulations, penalties, etc, what is to stop them? For example, a town policy that says there are too many guns here and we commit ourselves to do all we can to reduce that number.

Macron’s Response to Trump: ‘I Do Not Do Policy or Diplomacy by Tweets’ - The New York Times
The sad part of all this is that the facts no longer speak for themselves, and, worse, far too many ignorant people just don't care. Bravo, once again, for the civility and appropriateness of President MACRON. He reminds us of what US democracy elected two years ago and how unclear is the future of US thinking. How do supporters of TRUMP ever get back to embracing historic US values that President MACRON can articulate better than anyone I have heard speak int eh Republican Party. Or is that the Republic Party?

We need to ignore these narcissitic nothings, and concentrate on why the rule of law is so important.
