Too, too many guns
How can anyone think otherwise - this from The Trace today:
"Four 1-year-olds were fatally shot in the U.S. in the last week. On March 10, Gabriela Farias, 1, was found shot to death along with her mother in Ocala National Forest in central Florida. Her father was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and later died. In the early morning hours of March 12, Ja’Mariel Laique Tanksley, 1, was fatally shot during an argument between her babysitter and the woman’s brother in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Later that day in Mobile, Alabama, a 2-year-old boy found a 9mm handgun in his parents’ bedroom and unintentionally killed his 1-year-old brother with it. And on March 14, Laylay Briggs, 1, was shot by her father, who also killed his stepfather, half-brother, and 16-year-old son in a home in Brooklyn, New York. The gunman’s father said Laylay “was so beautiful. She was so loved.”"

Recall TRUMP's scurrilous characterization of many countries in the developing world. It struck me that the word "a--h---" that he chose to use has a lot of other applications, starting with the idea that good stuff regularly slips through the crack, along with mostly bad. I have not fully grasped exactly how TRUMP fits, so to speak, into that, but I am sure he does.
Mosquitoes and guns
The current proposals to restrict a few guns, including purchase, is akin to going after a mosquito outbreak with a fly swatter. You may catch a few mosquitoes, but you'll never beat the swarm. So, too, with guns. They are mosquitoes with bullets.

How I would start the National Firearms Policy Act, based on the National Environmental Policy Act:
"The purposes of this chapter are: To declare a national policy which will encourage productive and enjoyable harmony between man and firearms; to promote efforts which will prevent or eliminate injuries to people and property and stimulate the health and welfare of man; to enrich the understanding of the risks to health and safety posed by firearms and their misuse; and to establish a Council on Firearms Policy."
I would continue to say the following:
"It is the policy of the United States that firearms are inherently dangerous and should be available only to, and capable of being used by, qualified members of US military forces, national guards, police forces, and private, licensed security personnel. All other uses are discouraged in the interest of protecting national health and safety. Towatrd this end, no person under 21 should be permitted to own, carry, or use in any manner any firearm unless a specfic finding is made in the case of each by a panel of experts."
"Anyone alleged to have owned, carried, or used any firearm in violation of this law shall be subject to exclusive prosecution in federal court."
